Letter from Recruitment Chair
Welcome to Delta Gamma at the University of Alberta’s website, and thank you for your interest in our chapter! My name is Shaney Borden and I am currently serving as the Vice President: Membership for the 2017 year. I hope that our website will give you an opportunity to explore our chapter’s history, events, philanthropy, and sisterhood, but most of all, I hope it can help you begin to understand the passion and love we feel for Delta Gamma. DG has gone beyond just being a club of likeminded women and has become a space where you can truly grow and find yourself during your university experience.
Recruitment can be a scary and stressful time. Being vulnerable and trying something new is always a little intimidating, but trust me, it is worth it! Though it can be overwhelming in the beginning, Greek life has given me so many opportunities to meet people, make memories, and better myself during my university experience. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I am so excited for you to begin your own journey within the Greek system here at the U of A!
At the University of Alberta, Delta Gamma take pride in our reputation for academic excellence, campus involvement, outstanding character, and philanthropy. We are committed to excellence and upholding the values upon which our fraternity was founded. However, membership as a Delta Gamma goes beyond the stereotypical sorority life you see in the movies. DG is more than formals and socials and it is more than just philanthropy events and service. Delta Gamma creates a foundation from which you can grow and be supported in your individual strides to become your best self. DG has truly become my home and the women in it have become family. I am confident that each woman that walks through our doors will one day leave with something special to take with herself, bettered by the people she met and lessons she has learned. Delta Gamma isn’t just for 4 years, it is for life.
Panhellenic Recruitment at the University of Alberta allows college women attending university to explore the aspects of all sorority life on campus by visiting each of the four Panhellenic sororities. If you are interested in seeing what the four Panhellenic sororities have to offer you, please come visit us at Clubs Fair starting on September 5th, as well as an information night on September 6th where you can learn more about Fall Recruitment and what being in a sorority is really all about! To learn more about the recruitment process or if you have any questions visit http://www.ualbertasororities.com/.
To conclude, there's a quote I have always loved that reads “You spend your whole life feeling like you don’t quite fit in anywhere. And then you walk into a room one day whether it’s an office, or a club and you just go, ‘Ah, there they are.’ And suddenly you feel at home.” That is what Delta Gamma felt like for me; it feels like coming home. At such a large university, participating in Greek Life can scale down the overwhelming campus and allow you to find a community that shares common values and interests. My membership in Delta Gamma and in the extended Greek community has allowed for me to make the most of my experience here at U of A. I cannot wait to meet all of you who are participating in formal recruitment this fall. Just remember throughout the process to stay calm, keep an open mind, and follow your heart. We are so excited to share our DG stories and to show you more about the chapter we love so much!
I wish you all the very best and send all my love.
