Beta Beta Chapter at University of Alberta

Hi I'm Monica, the President of the Beta Beta Chapter of Delta Gamma at the University of Alberta. Welcome to our page! It is my pleasure to share with you some of the rich history of DeltaGamma and our treasured chapter here at the University of Alberta.

Delta Gamma was founded in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi, by three young women who were unable to go home during a Christmas holiday. Together they formed a club, rooted in education and service, that now has more than 245,000 members worldwide. Delta Gamma is built on a foundation of fostering high ideals of friendship, promoting educational and cultural interests, a true sense of social responsibility and developing the best qualities of character. The letters Delta and Gamma were chosen to represent "Do Good." It remains the motto of the Fraternity and a reminder each day of the promises we made to our sisterhood.

Here at Beta Beta, we host one of the longest- running philanthropy events at the University of Alberta: Anchor Splash. Over the past 30+ years, we have hosted a week-long event during which teams participate in exciting competitions including Serenade the President, synchronized swimming and raft building, all in the name of benefitting our international philanthropy: Service for Sight. Of other philanthropic events we host, included is Desserts with DG: an opportunity for guests to tour our local chapter house and learn about the reality of people who are visually impaired, while savouring our popular home-baked goods! This year, we launched a brand-new
event: Anchor Frost, which included floor hockey competitions, chai sales and a Winter Carnival featuring live music and games. The proceeds of our events go directly to the Delta Gamma Foundation and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

Our chapter offers opportunity for scholarship enrichment, leadership engagement, service and lifelong friendship. Our members contribute service hours to the Strathcona Senior Center, the CNIB, and our Canadian Veterans. Our members thrive in a variety of student groups, artistic showcases and competitive sports to which they bring the same enthusiasm and dedication that brought them to Delta Gamma. Academic achievement is a priority, and Delta Gamma is an environment that offers support and recognition for scholastic success.

Our values are our foundation for loyal, life-long friendship that instills in us the ambition and support needed to live a fulfilling life, and to be influential leaders in the world. Delta Gamma is a life changing experience; Welcome Aboard.
